Electric Mobility Canada (EMC) has submitted its response to the federal government’s consultation on the proposed repeal of the Electric Vehicle Availability Standard (EVAS) and the development of a future regulatory framework for light-duty vehicle greenhouse gas emissions.
The consultation represents an important opportunity to shape Canada’s next generation of transportation emissions policies at a time of significant change in North American and global automotive markets.
EMC’s submission is organized into three parts:
- Historical and policy context regarding vehicle regulations and the automotive industry’s response to regulatory change;
- Comments on the government’s consultation document and proposed repeal of EVAS;
- Recommendations regarding the design of a future Canadian light-duty vehicle greenhouse gas regulation.
As Canada’s national association representing the electric transportation ecosystem, EMC believes transportation electrification remains a key economic, industrial, and environmental opportunity for Canada. Effective public policy can support investment, strengthen supply chains, expand consumer choice, create jobs, and improve Canada’s competitiveness in the rapidly evolving global automotive sector.
The submission also highlights the importance of evidence-based policymaking and provides context regarding the role that vehicle regulations have played in driving innovation, improving fuel efficiency, and advancing vehicle electrification over time.
EMC appreciates the opportunity to participate in this consultation process and looks forward to continued engagement with federal decision-makers as Canada considers the future of its vehicle emissions framework.
