In celebration of Earth Day, we are thrilled to provide a progress update on EMC’s 2030 EV Action Plan. The 2030 EV Action Plan is an industry-led project of Electric Mobility Canada (EMC) and is intended to ensure Canada succeeds in the transition to electric mobility.

Initially published in late 2021, the 2030 EV Action Plan was updated in August 2023 to adapt it to the evolving landscape.

EMC is delighted to share the federal policy gains that have been made since its inception:

• National ZE MHDV sales targets announced: 35% by 2030 and 100% by 2040 (March 2022)
• ZE MHDV purchase incentive and awareness programs launched (July 2022)
• CIB funding for public charging infrastructure (September 2022)
• iZEV purchase incentive program extensions (2022 and 2024)
• Creation of the Canadian ZEV Council in early 2023, EMC appointed member and co-leader of two working groups (March 2023)
• Creation of a Pan-Canadian Grid Council (May 2023)
• Canadian EV Availability Standard (adopted December 2023)
• Multiple investments and tax credits in manufacturing. For example:
  • Volkswagen 90 GWh battery cell factory
  • 45 GWh Stellantis battery cell factory

EMC is grateful to the members of its Government Relations Committee for their valuable input and support of this initiative. Their contributions are vital in moving the needle and bringing Canada several steps closer to fully transitioning to electric mobility.

We have much more work ahead of us. EMC and its partners are committed to pushing forward to ensure that Canada reaches its ZEV adoption targets, while creating new and clean jobs across the country. In the coming months, we will be discussing the programs and policies required to support the deployment of reliable public charging services in all regions and the electrification of medium- and heavy-duty and off-road vehicles, among other priorities.
