Manitoba’s 2024 Budget includes big win for the environment and EV enthusiasts

Manitoba’s 2024 Budget includes big win for the environment and EV enthusiasts 

On Tuesday April 2, Manitoba Finance Minister Adrien Sala, rose in the Legislature to deliver his first budget. The budget is heavily focused on health care reform and rebuilding initiatives and measures to bring affordability for families. 

Manitoba Budget 2024 centres around the following themes:  

  • Rebuilding health care
  • Lowering costs for families
  • Healthier families and safer communities
  • Growing the economy
  • A government that works for its people

Supporting electric mobility in the budget 

Under the following themes, the government delivered on rebates for EVs, support to New Flyer, and investment in skilled trades training. 

Lowering costs for families 

  • Manitobans will now receive a $4,000 rebate for new electric vehicles (EVs) and plug-in hybrids and a $2,500 rebate for used EVs and plug-in hybrids. 

Growing the economy 

  • The Manitoba government will invest $10 million in New Flyer Inc.’s All Canadian Build facility to build more electric buses in Manitoba and create a centre of excellence. 
  • The budget also outlines $43 million to support post-secondary students training for their careers. 
  • The Government of Manitoba will invest $1.5 million to increase the number of apprenticeship training seats to help grow our skilled labour force.
