EMC’s statement on BC’s update to zero-emission vehicle targets

EMC welcomes the Province of British Columbia’s announcement to update its zero-emission vehicle (ZEV) targets while continuing to invest in expanding public charging infrastructure.

“At a time when the price of gas reaches $2/liter once again, British Columbia’s ZEV sales regulation is about affordability, real consumer choice, and the province’s leadership. With new vehicle prices up 50% in six years, and the $5,000 federal EV rebate restored, electric vehicles offer British Columbians the lowest total cost of ownership. They deserve better access to affordable electric vehicles, and maintaining the regulation is key to ensuring they have real choices”, stated Daniel Breton, President & CEO of Electric Mobility Canada.

Funding new public charging station projects across B.C. remains a critical driver of consumer confidence and long-term ZEV adoption. Continued investment in charging infrastructure will help ensure that more British Columbians can consider cleaner transportation options as technology evolves and affordability improves.

At the same time, EMC believes it will be important for government, industry, and communities to work collaboratively to maintain momentum toward emissions reductions over the long term. Clear timelines, predictable policy, and sustained infrastructure investment will be key to supporting innovation, safeguarding jobs, and delivering environmental benefits for British Columbians.

EMC looks forward to continued engagement with the province as the updated regulations are developed and implemented.
