Electric Mobility Canada President and CEO Daniel Breton welcomed today’s announcement of new funding for public EV chargers across Quebec, highlighting the benefits for drivers and the environment.

QUEBEC, August 30, 2023 — Electric Mobility Canada President and CEO Daniel Breton welcomed today’s announcement of new funding for public EV chargers across Quebec, highlighting the benefits for drivers and the environment.

Today, the Honourable Jonathan Wilkinson, Canada’s Minister of Energy and Natural Resources announced nearly $30 million in federal investment to deliver over 1,500 additional EV chargers across Quebec, including over 400 fast chargers. Today’s investments provide federal support for 1,578 chargers across 18 projects.

“With more and more drivers choosing electric vehicles, this is a vital and valuable investment that will make it easier and more affordable for Canadians to get where they’re going while helping to reduce Canada’s greenhouse gas emissions,” said Breton. “We applaud the federal government’s leadership and thank Minister Wilkinson for his engagement in helping drive the transition to electric vehicles through the accelerated deployment of EV charging infrastructure across Canada.”

At the news conference Breton pointed out that Canada and Quebec saw record sales of electric vehicles in the second quarter of 2023, with 10.5% in Canada and 18.4% in Quebec, and that Canada has exceeded its target of deploying 4,300 fast-charging stations two years ahead of schedule. “While there is still a lot of work to be done in terms of charging infrastructure deployment, there is no doubt that with today’s announcement, we are heading in the right direction,” Breton said.
