Electric Mobility Canada reacts to GM/POSCO Chemical announcement : Great news for Canada’s ZEV supply chain
MONTREAL – Today, General Motors Co. and POSCO Chemical held a press conference announcing their plans to open a cathode active material (CAM) factory in Bécancour, QC.
Combined with last week’s BASF announcement, this $500 million initiative will further help establish Canada as a global leader in electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing. “This is great news for Canada; not only will this partnership between GM and POSCO Chemical secure future supply for OEMs, but it will also provide many jobs for Canadians and propel the auto sector,” stated Daniel Breton, President & CEO of Electric Mobility Canada.
The Honourable François-Philippe Champagne, Canada’s Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry, Pierre Fitzgibbon, Quebec’s Minister of Economy and Innovation and Minister Responsible for Regional Economic Development, and Jonatan Julien, Quebec’s Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, delivered remarks during today’s announcement. “I would like to commend the Canadian government and Québec government for their hard work to make sure that today’s announcement becomes a reality. By doing so, they are showing Canadians just how important it is for our country to move forward with electromobility,” said Breton.
Great news stories like these further amplify Electric Mobility Canada’s (EMC) 2030 EV Action Plan. The 2030 EV Action Plan is an industry-led project of EMC and is intended to ensure Canada succeeds in the transition to electric mobility. The plan consists of six key pillars that outline a total of 32 policy recommendations.
