2019 Quebec Budget – Extension of the Drive Green program

March 22, 2019 – Electric Mobility Canada welcomes the 2019 Québec budget, which extends the Drive Green program ($433.8 million) until 2021. The funding will cover:

  • The financing of rebates for the acquisition of new EVs in 2019-2020 and 2020-2021
  • The extension of the program to all-electric used vehicles ($21.7 million)
  • An increased funding for charging stations at work ($3.2 million)

The additional funding of $433.8 million is expected to encourage the acquisition of approximately 66,000 electric vehicles and the installation of nearly 27,500 home charging stations and more than 1,200 workplace charging stations. As part of the next climate change action plan, the Government will determine the parameters of the program beyond March 31, 2021.

It should be noted that starting in 2020-2021, the Drive Green program will be revised to reduce from $75,000 to $60,000 the maximum retail price threshold suggested by the manufacturer of the electric vehicle, which allows for an $8,000 discount on its acquisition.
