Electric Mobility Canada Welcomes Historic Announcement on Clean Transit by the Government of Canada

February 10, 2021 – Today, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced $14.9 billion for public transit projects over the next eight years which includes permanent funding of $3 billion per year for Canadian communities beginning in 2026-27, and a focus on zero emission vehicles (ZEV), its infrastructure and the clean energy needed to power it.

“This financial commitment will reduce air pollution for Canadians by transitioning public transit systems to zero-emission vehicles, related needed infrastructure and cleaner electrical power,” says Daniel Breton, President and CEO, Electric Mobility Canada. “It will also provide cities and communities the predictable transit funding they need to plan for the future, create jobs, fight climate change, and rebuild a more sustainable and resilient economy.”

We are also encouraged by the cooperation and partnerships between Infrastructure Canada, Environment Canada, the Federation of Canadian Municipalities and the Canada Infrastructure Bank necessary to advance these bold initiatives.

“Clean transit powered by clean electricity are essential for our clean mobility transition,” closes Breton. “This is indeed great news for the future of electric mobility across Canada.”
