Tesla unveils Model 3
Last week, Tesla unveiled its new Model 3, the company’s most affordable electric car to date. Over the weekend, worldwide orders hit 276,000. According to Elon Musk, Tesla Motors’ CEO, if the trend continues, orders will hit 500,000.
Tesla’s new Model 3 starts at $35,000 USD and has a range of almost 350 kilometres per charge, which would make it the first mass-market electric vehicle. The Model 3 is less than half the cost of Tesla’s previous models, and its range is about double what drivers get from current competitors in its price range, such as the Nissan Leaf and BMW i3. The Model 3 is not expected to begin production until late 2017.
